  • The clock contains everything needed to reach the six-word solution.

  • Numbers refer to word position in the motto.

  • The sequence of the symbols held by the figures provides order: hands point to numbers, numbers indicate words.

  • The 16th, 3rd, 24th, 7th, 13th and 20th words combine to create the answer READ THE WORDS BACK TO FRONT.

  • The book titles provide the solution.

  • The prior solution suggests what to do with the titles.

  • Read the letters of the titles in reverse order, starting with S W A P.

  • The titles, read in reverse, are: SWAP STAR DRAWER & SPACE ‘R’ WOLF; WED SPOTS MARKED III + II ON LEVEL [-] & (|) TO RAT, DART AND FOES ALONE.

  • The prior solution provides instructions for moving drawers—every move is a direct swap, nothing is swapped twice.

  • As hinted at on the next page, the drawers need to be arranged so that a continuous line runs through them (though this has no other function).

  • Swap the star drawer into the R space; swap the rat, dart, boxer facing right and boxer facing left into the 3 and 2 spaces on the second row and first row respectively.

  • See this image for positions.

  • The track of flame confirms your correct drawer positions but does not provide further information.

  • The small arrows, however, point to four characters that relate to the library cards.

  • The two letters are initials, the two numbers represent a date; the solution is the book reference.

  • MM64 – Maria Marjonek, 6th April – 523.79

  • You have a reference from the prior solution and need to determine which of the eight broad sections it is in.

  • Arrange the subsections numerically; the trios of subsections that comprise the broad sections will become more obvious.

  • For example, references 000-100, “Folktales,” “Spoken Recs,” and “Archives” comprise “History & Fiction.”

  • 000-100 History & Fiction,
    101-200 Language & Communication,
    201-300 Natural & Cosmic Magics,
    301-400 Artworks & Beauty,
    401-500 Alchemy & Education,
    501-600 Ritual & Spellcasting,
    601-700 Divination & the Mind,
    701-800 Politics & Power Structures.

The solution is “Ritual & Spellcasting.”

  • The symbols are of greatest significance here, but you’ll need information from elsewhere for the star names.

  • Use the viewfinder with the prologue image to help determine star-name positions.

  • The prior solution points to a star name between two new symbols.

  • In the bottom left (between two new symbols to take note of): SILENCE.

Page (vii)

  • Only one section of text provides instructions but the whole page needs to be used with other material to find the four-letter final answer.

  • Find the symbols from the prior solution surrounding the star name in cipher alphabet. Use the cipher to decode the relevant section of text.

  • The house of cards is the drawers; the arrows are the ones used earlier; overlay them with this page!

  • The correct section of text reads: “A house of cards, when overlaid, & arrows loosed, will spell the place.” Placing the (rearranged) drawers over the book page and noting the letters on the book page that the arrows point to, creates the final answer HOME.
